Helping rural women land their first job!

Closing the gender gap is a mammoth task, but it begins with one girl empowering herself through education and employment.

At Angira Education Lab, we offer a curated digital literacy curriculum to rural, disadvantaged learners from the Solapur district, and prepare them for their first job.

Our focus is on women, aged 16 and above - through our state-of-the-art computer lab and seasoned teachers, we provide training, build their confidence and eventually help them achieve financial independence.

 What we Do

We bring in girls from surrounding villages and get them started with desktop computers. Once they are up to speed, they get started with MS- Office, G- Suite and Canva.

Ultimately, students are taught front end development via HTML and CSS/JavaScript.

Once they develop baseline proficiency, they are prepared for interviews and sent into the job market. With a little help and a lot of hard work, they land their first job!

 OUR STORY

We started in 2020 with the aim of improving learning outcomes for rural students. You see, the problem is not that they do not have access to education at all, they do, Solapur has government-aided schools every kilometer. The problem is, due to poor pedagogical practices in these schools, children often emerge from 10+ years of schooling having learnt nothing tangible. Or at least marketable.

We wanted to change that. We tweaked the curriculum here and there and finally designed a master checklist that worked!

With a small team, Angira takes in girls year after year and turns out confident women ready to take on the job market.

 Impact

Since 2020, more than 200 girls have received training and landed entry-level jobs.

Some girls, having built a good foundation, enroll in BCA/diploma programs along with their jobs.
